Why do you need RPE?
As an employer, it is your duty, for the health of all employees or contractors under the Health and Safety Act of 1974 and COSHH
Due to the increase of respiratory problems and diseases there has been changes within the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Laws.
This means if your work involves, dust, fumes, gases, particles or irritating substances, they could cause various lung diseases, such as bronchitis, emphysema, mesothelioma, silicosis or even asthma.
Meaning that over time the lungs could have been gradually damaged, leading to possible permanent damage, therefore a poorer quality of life. Lung diseases develop slowly, so it may take several years to tell if your employees have been affected in any way.
If your work is; Asbestos, Construction, Mining, Quarrying, Welding, Baking, some Farming processes, Textile work, Stone-masonry, Biological, Electrician, Plumber etc. then your employees may still be at risk from these diseases if you do not have the correct procedures in place and they may still need Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) to keep their exposure to a minimum.
